Up Yours Your Majesty!

a Punk one-off
Sunday 3 June 2012
Hagglers Corner
, Queen’s Road, S2

A special punk screening of Derek Jarman’s 1978 dystopian film Jubilee, on the weekend of the Queen’s diamond jubilee. We felt very punk and arthouse, tucked away in the (nearly finished) cafe at Hagglers Corner. Our soundtrack was:
New Rose – The Damned
Cranked up really high – Slaughter and the Dogs
Oh Bondage! – X Ray Spex
Baby baby – The Vibrators
Boredom – The Buzzcocks
No Fun – Sex Pistols
Gloria – Patti Smith
Blank Generation – Richard Hell and the Voidoids
Bored Teenagers – The Adverts
I’m so Bored with the USA – The Clash
In a Rut – The Ruts
Suspect Device – Stiff Little Fingers

Mel put on her punk get up and Jen handmade us a special mini fanzine that folded out into a poster…

The film itself was pretentious, intense, obtuse, surreal – a bleak statement of modern society, something akin to A Clockwork Orange. Perhaps our most difficult and grown up screening yet. But with added hot chocolate and Union Jack sweets.
