The Lantern Theatre, nether edge

On this beautiful early summer evening, a select audience were greeted by actor Robert in bow tie and tails before heading to the Lantern Theatre in Nether Edge for pre-show cucumber sandwiches. The tiny Victorian theatre was perfect for this film: a huge screen was framed by the stage’s intricate proscenium arch as we followed Louis Mazzini’s attempts to acquire the Dukedom of Chalfont by bumping off all the other heirs. The fascinating characters are excellently played – from the shallow and scheming Sibella to Alec Guinness’s array of D’Ascoynes – and the dialogue sparkles.
