Our latest screening, “Pandora and the Flying Dutchman” contained a group of unlikely characters: a femme fatale, a sailor (who is also a ghost), a racing car driver, a bullfighter and an archeologist.
We asked the audience to come up with a list of five films, one for each of these characters (we divided the sailor / ghost into two separate ones) and got some great – and very different – responses. Here they are:
Bullfighter: Blood and Sand (Rudolf Valentino) / Blancanieves / Carmen / Matador / Death in the Afternoon / It’s All True
Sailor: An American in Paris / Mutiny on the Bounty / Moby Dick / On the Town / Pirates of the Carribean series / Master & Commander / The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea
Femme Fatale Morgana in “Excalibur” / Fatal Attraction / The Maltese Falcon / Who Framed Roger Rabbit / Mata Hari / Gone with the Wind / Build my Gallows High / Mildred Pierce
Ghost: The Ghost & Mrs Muir / Blithe Spirit / It’s a Wonderful Life / The Sixth Sense / Ghost / The Canterville Ghost
Racing driver: Genevieve / On the Beach / Rush / Senna / Grease (Greased Lightning!)
Archeologist: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom/ Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skulls / The Fifth Element / Voyage to Italy / Raiders of the Lost Ark
All great suggestions, though we particularly liked the innovative mix of well-known and more obscure titles (in italics) from Andy Markowitz, who wins a film of his choice from “Encore”. But further ideas welcome, send ’em in and we’ll include them in the list!
