Spring Forwards

Yes, it has taken some of us nearly a week to get all the clocks in the house telling the right time. But the hour has gone forwards for spring, it is officially British Summertime (always confusing, typically British) and although it’s still cold outside, the sky is blue and the sun is shining. Time for some new decisions and to put them into action.

First of all, we are changing our licensing structure. A few weeks ago we blogged about the intricacies of film exhibition licensing and how this had shaped the way we do film club – well, all that has changed. We’ve come to the end of the umbrella licence – the one that was like a veg box! – and from now on will need to buy a single title licence for each film we show, which is going to cost a lot more and means that from now on, the majority of our screenings will have a door fee. The good news is that we will have a much wider selection of films we can show, which is super-exciting and we are currently having to catch our breath about this because there are just so damn many of them! We feel like little kids in a sweetie shop wondering what to choose…

So never fear! We will stay true to the DIY spirit we started with and still do the odd free screening, and we hope you’ll stick with us as we evolve.

if you’re a member you’ll get discounts on the ticket price as well as other little perks like members’-only screenings, members’ forum, merchandise, Christmas party etc. And lots more things that we have in the pipeline…so keep the faith, get on the mailing list for up to the minute updates, sign up for membership if you haven’t already, let us know what films you’re dying to see and most importantly, come and see us at a screening soon!

April screening: Luis Bunuel’s subversive masterpiece “Viridiana“, Saturday 27th April, Heeley Institute, 4pm. Join us for a Super 8mm short, Main feature, glass of wine and selection of tapas, prizes…
